Staff Highlighter: Cheryl Sassman

Position: Head of Circulation

Hometown: Austin, TX

Years of Service: 22 years

Job Description: Responsible for coordinating, planning and directing the activities of the Circulation Department, including circulation, collection maintenance, stacks management, Remote Storage and electronic and paper reserves; primary sources of decision-making regarding circulation policies and customer service issues relating to patrons.

Something you never expected: I never expected to still be working at the library 22 years later. I began working here in Government Information and Reference for the tuition benefits to attend graduate school in the M.J. Neeley School of Business.

Hobbies: European travel - my favorite destination is France, but I also love Italy and have been to Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, England and Spain - collecting and selling antiques and vintage items. I have a booth at a local antique mall; food and wine; reading about food, shopping, cooking and feeding friends and family.

Any good stories from your days in the library?: I just really enjoy helping all the students and faculty at TCU with their library needs. I've met so many interesting people over the years. Also, I enjoy our student assistants who work with us in Circulation. We hire more than 20 students each semester and they are an important part of our service to TCU.
