THE AMON G. CARTER PAPERS Back | Next

Amon G. Carter was a host and supporter of Harry S Truman at the Presidential campaign in Fort Worth in 1948

Mr. Carter was a well-known and respected business leader in Texas and across the country. Though he is perhaps best known as a newspaper publisher, he was also very successful in the oil, cattle and radio-television businesses.

Amon G. Carter's friends and colleagues included prominent people in government, business, industry, and entertainment.

He was a great philanthropist whose generosity touched individuals and institutions alike. He responded to requests from people he had not met, who knew him only through his newspaper. He gave to educational institutions, hospitals, museums, churches, parks and camps, many of which bear his name today.
