THE AMON G. CARTER PAPERS Back | Home | His Legacy

Mr. Carter lived in Fort Worth on Shady Oak Farm where he was host to thousands over the years, many of whom where royalty, Presidents, heads of state, politicians, and celebrities. His already flamboyant life was punctuated by acts of kindness and a determined effort to build up the city and region he called home.

In 1947, Carter married Mrs. Minnie Meacham Smith. She was the daughter of the Fort Worth mayor and businessman H. C. Meacham. They had eight years together before he died in 1955 at the age of seventy-six.
